Dear friend!

Brahms has declined, even though I asked him personally. I didn't have the heart to offer Klindworth less than 1000 rubles. Massenet as well (but approximately so, as I offered 2500 francs). I offered 800 rubles to Dvořák, and he agreed (he wants to come in March). Please pay the duties on my things and send them on to Aleksey at Frolovskoye. Please collect the Moscow royalties now, or after Easter if you wish.

You should have sent me the Opus 65 romances in Berlin, and I even deliberately wrote that down in my little book, but I waited in vain for them. There is no way they can printed without my corrections. Send them at once to Paris, 14, Rue Richepanse. I'm going almost directly there today. If you've already sent them to Wolff, then so much the better.

In early May I should be in Moscow in any case.

Yesterday there was a concert here. The Fifth Symphony had great success. The success in Geneva was enormous — but nobody in Russia reads about me in the newspapers. This is very sad. I have no friends in the Petersburg press, while Moscow has forgotten me. I cannot write publicity about myself.

Until we meet! Please write; letters are my singular consolation.

Yours, P. Tchaikovsky
