Милый Модя!

Посылаю 300 р[ублей] сер[ебром]. Из них 100 — Наре, 100 — на шинель Боба, 100 — тебе.

Вчера был Танеевский обед в «Эрмитаже».

Квартирка моя прелестна, но немножко слишком мала. Феклуша едва двигается, очень похудела ещё. Печально смотреть на неё.

Писать некогда! Целую.

Dear Modya!

I'm sending 300 silver rubles, of which 100 are for Nara [1], 100 for Bob's overcoat, and 100 for you.

The Taneyev dinner at the "Hermitage" was yesterday [2]

My apartment is lovely, but somewhat too small. Feklusha [3] hardly moves, yet she's losing weight. She's a pitiful sight.

No more time to write! I kiss you.

  1. Apollinaire Skvortsova, the grandmother of Modest's ward Nikolay Konradi.
  2. Sergey Taneyev's brother Vladimir was the organiser of a monthly dinner attended by notable scientists and figures from the arts. Tchaikovsky missed this particular occasion, as he arrived in Moscow too late.
  3. The wife of Tchaikovsky's manservant Aleksey Sofronov.
