Dear friend! I am very, very grateful to you for the offer to conduct my business correspondence. But I cannot drop every aspect of my affairs on you! Golubchik, don't worry about "The Voyevoda" — it's what it deserves. I'm not in the least repentant, because I'm profoundly convinced that this work compromises me. Were I an inexperienced youth then it would be another matter, but a grey-haired old man ought either to move forward (if this is even possible, for example, Verdi continues to progress, and he's nearly 80), or to stay at the heights that he's previously reached.
The Conservatory won't be receiving 40,000, but rather more, because as S. M. Tretyakov explained to me, the interest rate has increased.

I'm finishing off the scoring of "Iolanta". I don't think it needs tearing to shreds, but I don't know anyway.

Send me the book about Rubinstein if you can — I'm most interested.

I embrace you.
