Golubchik! Kindly deal with the customs office, who have taken delivery of 24 bottles of the most excellent vodka, sent to me by Councillor Pollini. I'm afraid there will be a hell of a lot of duty to pay, but what's to be done.

I've just arrived home [1], and will stay here for at least 3 weeks without interruption.

I really want to and must get a gift for Osip Ivanovich, at least something tangible to repay him for of all his efforts on my affairs. I've tried asking what sort of thing might please him, but he won't hear of it. Therefore I'm turning to you. What could I bring him that would give him a little enjoyment? Please consult with Sofiya Ivanovna.

The suite from the ballet [2] was successful. I don't think it would hurt to print it. I was permitted to take a copy of it in Petersburg, a copy made incidentally for you (at my expense). If they want to play it all summer, then let them.

Bruyllov and Lents are wondering about printing "Manfred" for 8 hands. Might you find this possible? I asked you recently, and you wanted to write to Osip Ivanovich. Did you write? Of course there's absolutely no hurry, but the arrangement is excellent [3].

Yours, P. Tchaikovsky

Kindly arrange to send 50 rubles to the following address: Radzivilov Place in Volhynian province, to Leonid Karlovich Rabus [4].
