{{centre|Милый друг!}}

{{centre|Dear friend!}}
As to the question of whether I alone should do the proofreading <ref name="note1"/>, I have already written to you twice <ref name="note2"/>. Did one of the letters go astray?

''Yes, certainly ''{{und|alone}}.

This is faster, better and more accurate. And please, the more you send the better. After all, I have no concerns now besides the proofs, and I'm in no position to do anything else. So far as the ''final review'' is concerned, we'll discuss this once I've looked over everything first. I'm inclined to agree that your two most trusted engravers may do this, but on your ''word of honour'' that they won't miss anything.

There's no reason for me to look over [[Pabst]]'s ''Paraphrase'' <ref name="note3"/>: it's his responsibility, not mine. Besides, I've no doubts as to his artistry and musicality. Now one instruction.

Kindly send the following telegram (I can't send ones abroad from [[Klin]]).

I'm enclosing the telegram on a separate page <ref name="note4"/>.
