Иттер, Тироль 22/10 сент[ября] Дорогой друг Лев Абрамович! Милейшее письмо Ваше только что получил. Отвечаю сейчас же. Мне очень бы хотелось принять Ваше предложение, но вот в чем дело: 1) Ни в октябре, ни в ноябре я не могу, ибо в Петербурге ставится моя новая опера и таковой же балет. 2) Боюсь взять на себя 3 концерта с разнообразной программой, ибо не знаю, успею ли приготовиться к не моим сочинениям. Посему предлагаю Вам: 1 ) удовольствоваться одним концертом из моих сочинений и одним из чужих, притом на близком расстоянии один от другого, не более одной недели; 2} назначить эти 2 концерта в конце декабря или начале января. Предоставляю Вам составить программу того и другого концерта, но прислать мне её пораньше, в октябре, дабы я мог подготовиться. Живу я теперь у Ментер в Тироле, где пребывает пианист-одессит Сапельников. Мне бы желательно, чтобы он участвовал в обоих моих концертах. (Адрес его Itter, Tyrol, Station Hopfgarten, Oesterreich.) Так как Общество Ваше небогато, а я сравнительно богат, то брать деньги с Вас мне неудобно и от гонорара я отказываюсь, но Сапельникову заплатить нужно. По поводу всего этого благоволите отвечать мне в г[ород] Клин, Моск[овской] губ[ернии], где в конце месяца я надеюсь уже быть. Itter, Tyrol 22/10 September Dear friend Lev Abramovich I have just received your most kind letter , and am replying at once. I should very much like to accept your suggestion, but the fact of the matter is: 1) I can do neither October nor November, because my new opera and ballet are both being put on in Petersburg . 2) I am concerned about taking on three concerts each with a diverse programme, because I do not know if I will be able to sufficiently prepare the compositions that are not my own. Therefore I suggest to you: 1) to have one concert consisting of my compositions, and one for those by others, with only a short space inbeteween; 2) to schedule these two concerts in late December or early January. I will leave it to you to devise the programme for both concerts, but send it to me in good time, in October, so that I can prepare. I'm now staying with Menter in the Tyrol, where the Odessan pianist Sapelnikov is living. I should like him to participate in both my concerts. (His address is Itter, Tyrol, Station Hopfgarten, Oesterreich.) As your Society is not wealthy, and I am comparatively well off, then it would be uncomfortable for me to take money from you, and I decline any fee, but it will be necessary to pay Sapelnikov. Would you be good enough to reply to me about all this at the town of Klin, Moscow province, where I hope to be by the end of the month.
