  1. Tchaikovsky asked for volume 4 (containing Nos. 31 to 40) from Die Schule der Geläufigkeit an dem Pianoforte oder 40 Ubungstücke um die Schnelligkeit der Finger zu entwickeln, Op. 299, by the Austrian composer Carl Czerny (1791-1857), to assist his niece Vera with her piano studies.
  2. The composer was awaiting the proofs of his opera from Jurgenson.
