Voici lair que je Vous ai promis.

|Translated text=Dear friend!
Her is the aria that I promised you. What riches and happiness. If it is unsuitable for you, then I did warn you that for some time I have not been disposed towards composition. I am leaving for Petersburg this evening. I am told that you were very much applauded in "Guilliaume Tell" yesterday. I am delighted with your success. Be so kind as to try to ensure that Bevignani takes the trouble to conduct the orchestra in "The Oprichnik". This is ungrateful of me. Merten went to a lot of trouble to mount it three years ago. But there is a great deal of difference between the Merten of yesteryear, and the Merten of today.

Until we meet, dear friend. I wish you lots of success.

Your affectionate,
There are two couplets in the aria. It must be sung after the words of the chorus: "he pours his light on us", page 100 of the piano score, first line, 4th bar.
