Taganrog (Таганрог) is a seaport on the Sea of Azov, in the Rostov oblast (Ростовская область) of the Russian Federation.

During Tchaikovsky's lifetime the city was part of the Mariupol district (Мариупольский уезд) in the Azov province (Азовская губерния) of the Russian Empire.


Tchaikovsky in Taganrong

Tchaikovsky's brother Ippolit lived at Taganrog, and was principal of the city's naval academy during the late 1880s and 1890s. The composer visited him on three occasions:
