Наконец я в Каменке после почти двухмесячной суматохи и возни с постановкой «''Пиковой дамы''». Я так устал и так много набралось писем, что пишу тебе лишь вкратце. Притом же Толя тебе о Петербурге и обо мне писал, а про ''Киев'' скaзать интересного для тебя ничего не имею. Здесь застал всех здоровыми. Ждут сюда ''Толю''. ''Боб'' приехал и сообщил о том, что какое-то твоё неприятное письмо задерживает Толю в ''Петербурге''. Это меня весьма беспокоит. Про свои планы на будущее пока ничего не пишу, ибо сам в точности не знаю ещё, на что решиться. Знаю только, что через неделю еду в Фроловское, где меня ожидает спешная работа. В конце же января, вероятно, поеду в Петербург, а потом за границу. Хоть и нельзя так далеко заглядывать вперёд, но осень я собираюсь прожить непременно в ''Тифлисе'', если только вы там останетесь.


Marmontel studied at the [[Paris]] Conservatory under Pierre Zimmerman (piano), Victor Dourien (harmony), Jacques Fromental Halévy (fugue), and Jean-François Le Sueur (composition), where in 1832 he achieved a first prize for his piano playing. In 1837 he became professor of singing at the Conservatory, and from 1848, professor of piano. His pupils included Isaac Albéniz, [[Georges Bizet]], Claude Debussy, and [[Louis Diémer]].

Tchaikovsky was introduced to Marmontel in 1886 by the French publisher [[Félix Mackar]], and agreed to the latter's suggestion that his ''[[Dumka]]'' for piano, Op. 59, should be dedicated to Marmontel.

What's more, [[Tolya]] wrote to you about [[Petersburg]] and about me, but I have nothing interesting to say about ''[[Kiev]]'' for you. I found everyone here well. We're waiting for ''[[Tolya]]'' here. ''[[Bob]]'' arrived and reported that some unpleasant letter of yours was detaining [[Tolya]] in ''[[Petersburg]]''. This worries me very much. I'm not writing anything about my future plans yet, because I still haven't decided on them exactly. I only know that in a week I'm going to [[Frolovskoye]], where urgent work is waiting for me. Then at the end of January, I'll probably go to [[Petersburg]], and then abroad. Although it's impossible to look too far ahead, I'm certainly intending to spend the autumn in ''[[Tiflis]]'', provided you're still there.
