Tallinn is the capital and largest city of Estonia, in the county of Harju (Harjuma).
During Tchaikovsky's lifetime it was known as Revel (Реваль) or Revel (Ревель), and was the capital of the Revel district (Ревельский уезд) in the Estonian province (Эстляндская губерния) of the Russian Empire.

The composer visited Revel from 5/17 December to 7/19 December 1891 to stay with his brother Anatoly, who was then deputy governor-general of the city.
