Notes and References

  1. The String Quartet No. 2 in F major, Op. 22, which had just been published by Pyotr Jurgenson. The quartet was dedicated to the Grand Duke Konstantin Nikolayevich, who was the president of the Saint Petersburg branch of the Russian Musical Society, and an admirer of Tchaikovsky's music.
  2. Aleksandr Alekseyevich Kireyev (1833-1910), secretary to Grand Duke Konstantin Nikolayevich.
