Wrocław is the administrative centre of the Lower Silesia province (Województwo dolnośląskie) in Poland. During Tchaikovsky's lifetime it was known as Breslau, forming part of the province of Silesia in the Kingdom of Prussia, and part of the German Empire from 1871.

Tchaikovsky in Breslau

Tchaikovsky stayed in Breslau on the night of 30 June/12 July to 1/13 July 1873, at the start of his summer vacation in Europe. At "Leibig's-etablissement", a "sufficiently hardy orchestra played a sizeable programme" [1].
