16/4 февр[аля 18]88 г[ода] Прага Прости, голубчик Лёня, что не исполняю обещания и так редко пишу, но, ей-Богу, не нахожу времени для писем. В Берлине концерт сошёл очень удачно и успел был большой. Оттуда я на один день поехал в Лейпциг и вместе с Зилоти через день отправился в Прагу. Тут идут такие торжества по случаю моего приезда, что и рассказать нельзя. Одну станцию от Праги нас встретила депутация и целая толпа, которая кричала «ура». В Праге меня ожидали несколько депутаций, произносили речи, подавали букеты и торжественно отвезли в гостиницу, где мне приготовлен был роскошный номер из нескольких комнат. С тех пор прошло 4 дня, и каждый день мне устраивают торжественные приёмы то в том, то в другом месте. У меня к моим услугам целый день карета; разные очень любезные люди постоянно и повсюду меня сопровождают, и вообще мне воздают такие почести, что я не знаю как и благодарить этих милых чехов. Сегодня была первая репетиция; меня встретили громкой трубной музыкой. Через три дня концерт; должно быть, торжество будет очень большое. Через два дня опять концерт в здешнем Большом театре. После этого я еду в Париж. Пиши мне туда: Франция, Париж, Rue Richepanse, 14. Пожалуйста, не откладывай найма дачи. Я только о том и думаю, как бы домой пораньше вернуться, и, даст Бог, так и будет. 16/4 February 1888 Prague Forgive me, golubchik Lyonya for not keeping my promises and writing so seldom, but, my God, I haven't found any time for letters. The concert in Berlin went very favourably and had great success [1]. From there I went to Leipzig for a day, and the next day set off for Prague with Ziloti. I can't describe the celebrations that accompanied my arrival. At the station before Prague we were met by a deputation and a whole crowd who were shouting "Hurrah". In Prague several deputations were waiting for me, delivering speeches and presenting bouquets, and I was driven ceremonially to the hotel, where a luxurious suite with several rooms had been prepared. That was 4 days ago, and since then gala receptions have been arranged for me every day, from one place to another. I have a carriage at my disposal every day; a variety of very friendly people constantly accompany me wherever I go, and in general they pay me such honours that I don't know how to thank these dear Czechs. Today was the first rehearsal; I was greeted by loud trumpet music. The concert is in three days; the celebrations will surely be very grand. Two days later there is another concert in the municipal grand theatre. After this I'm going to Paris. Write to me there: France, Paris, Rue Richepanse, 14. Please don't delay hiring a dacha. - ↑ On 27 January/8 February 1888 Tchaikovsky had conducted a Berlin Philharmonic Orchestra concert which included the overture-fantasia Romeo and Juliet, the Piano Concerto No. 1 (soloist Aleksandr Ziloti), the Introduzione e fuga from his Suite No. 1, the Andante cantabile from his String Quartet No. 1, four songs (soloist Aline Friede), and the overture The Year 1812.
