Dear friend!

The public who are going to be there on Friday are none of my concern. I cannot invite Anton Grigoryevich earlier than Friday, because I must adequately prepare the orchestral accompaniment beforehand, and for this purpose I've invited Blumenfeld [1] tomorrow. And so please ask Anton Grigoryevich to attend rehearsals on Friday at a time of his choosing. I'll be going to invite him in person on Thursday afternoon anyway. It's impossible for me to invite him tomorrow, because the orchestra is not ready and I am not ready.

Oh, the public rehearsals! They're the greatest of all evils! I shan't be paying them any attention whatsoever.

I'm very sorry that you are ill again, poor fellow!!

I embrace you.

P. Tchaikovsky
