Dear Sir!

For some time the press in the capital have quite often found it necessary to report the news of my purportedly imminent jubilee. In order to allay any misconceptions regarding this I humbly ask you to permit me, through the medium of your respected newspaper, to make it generally known that I am categorically unaware why and by whom it has been suggested that precisely twenty five years of my musical activities have now elapsed, and also that I certainly intend to evade any jubilee celebrations whatsoever, no matter how flattering and precious they may be to me!

Yours etc.

P Tchaikovsky
