Милый друг Евгений Карлович!

Я потерял список музыкантов, составляющих оркестр Михайловского театра. Пожалуйста, пришли мне его опять!

Обнимаю тебя.

П. Чайковский

Как подл мой секстет!!!!!!

7 January 1891

Dear friend Yevgeny Karlovich!

I've lost the list of musicians comprising the Mikhaylovsky Theatre orchestra. Please, send it to me again![1]

I embrace you.

P. Tchaikovsky

How foul is my sextet!!!!!![2]

Notes and References

  1. In his reply of 9/21 January 1891, Eugen Albrecht again listed the composition of the Mikhaylovsky Theatre orchestra in Saint Petersburg, for which Tchaikovsky was writing incidental music to Shakespeare's play Hamlet.
  2. After the first performances of his sextet Souvenir de Florence in the Russian capital on 25 November/6 December 1891, at which Albrecht played the first violin part, Tchaikovsky was unhappy with the work, and subsequently revised the work in January 1892.
