I beg you, just as a pauper begs for a piece of bread, to come as soon as possible. No words can express how frantically miserable and homesick I am. I would set off Russia forthwith, but with work in mind I simply have nowhere to go. I need to stay here and pull myself together. Everything will be different if you arrive. The journey afforded me nothing but misery. To see again Italy, Florence, which I used to love so much, was not at all pleasant for me, but on the contrary: horrible. I do not understand why all this has happened. Nazar has been very helpful and is a consolation to me, but it seems that my misery is affecting him. In short, I will be terribly glad if you come. I embrace you. P. Tchaikovsky Today I'm setting to work. |
