14 September 1887 Dear friend!
It's simply impossible to go to Moscow, the money has just flown away. Despite having had a more than sufficient amount, I've failed to keep hold of enough for myself, and didn't have anything to pay when I was unexpectedly dragged out to dinner (as a matter of fact Safonov is a horrible skinflint) and for the hotel. I hope that you have already settled both bills. Besides this, I ask you to send 30 silver rubles to Vyatka Province, Urzhumsky district, Novy Toryal. For God's sake render me every assistance in concluding matters with Novikova [1]; but allow Sokolov [2] to haggle anyway, if only so he doesn't miss out. Yours P. Tchaikovsky |
