Cologne
Tchaikovsky Research
Cologne (Köln) is the fourth-largest city in Germany, and part of the state of North Rhine-Westphalia (Nordrhein-Westfalen).
In Tchaikovsky's lifetime it was part of the Rhine Province of the Kingdom of Prussia, becoming part of the German Empire from 1871.

Tchaikovsky visited Cologne on three occasions:

| 30 January/11 February 1889 | 1/13 February 1889 | To conduct the "excellent" Cölner Städtisches Orchester in a performance of his Suite No. 3 at the Gürzenich (31 January/12 February); he also met the musician Franz Wüllner, and attended a dinner given in his honour [2]. |
