Рим 21/9 дек[абря] Милый друг! Сегодня успею только сообщить тебе, что я приехал в Рим и что найдя Hôtel de Russie очень неудобным и дорогим, мы с Модестом решились переехать в новое помещение, где и устроимся месяца на 2 или на 3. Адрес мой будет следующий: Hôtel Costanzi, Via San Niccolo di Tolentino. Погода непостижимо хорошо, но зато, дорогой, во Франции я натерпелся всяких бед. Холод, остановки вследствие заносов, голод, неудобства и столь сильное опоздание, что в Турине пришлось ночевать. Как только устроюсь, напишу подробно. Обнимаю тебя. Твой, П. Чайковский

Rome 21/9 December Dear friend! Today I'm only able to report to you that I've arrived in Rome and found the Hôtel de Russie very uncomfortable and expensive, so Modest and I decided to move to new accommodation, where I'm settling down for 2 or 3 months. My address will be as follows: Hôtel Costanzi, Via S[an] Niccolo di Tolentino. The weather is astonishingly better than in France, where latterly I endured all manner of misfortunes. The cold, being stranded due to snowdrifts, the hunger, inconvenience and such a serious delay that I had to spend the night in Turin. Once I'm settled I'll write more fully. I embrace you. Yours, P.
