Карлуша! Поговори в концерте с Алексеевым или с тем, от кого это зависит; нельзя ли мне получить завтра утром известную сумму, назначенную мне от Дирекции.
П. Чайковский

Karlusha! Discuss it at the concert with Alekseyev [2] or whomever this depends on; might I not receive a certain amount tomorrow, as apportioned to me by the Directorate?
P. Tchaikovsky

Notes and References

  1. Dated to November 1880 by Karl Albrecht, and apparently written prior to a Russian Musical Society concert on 22 November/4 December or 29 November/10 December 1880.
  2. Nikolay Aleksandrovich Alekseyev (1852-1893), one of the directors of the Moscow section of the Russian Musical Society. The letter seems to refer to the Society's payment of 1000 rubles made to the composer around this time.
