19 февр[аля] 1886 с[ело] Майданово Дорогая Катерина Васильевна! Я вчера просил Вас послать ко мне Диму в конце недели, но теперь без церемоний должен предупредить, что ко мне собирается на последние дни Масленицы такая масса гостей (из Консерваторской сферы) что знаменитого филолога негде будет поместить и потому я предпочёл бы чтобы он навестил меня в другой раз. Да ему и скучно будет в этой совершенно чуждой среде. И так, если Вы ещё ничего ему не говорили, то и не говорите. А впрочем, если почему-либо Диме удобно приехать именно теперь, на масленице, то как нибудь потеснимся и конечно я во всяком случае рад буду его видеть. Целую Ваши ручки. 19 February 1886 Maydanovo village Dear Katerina Vasilyevna! Yesterday I asked you to send Dima to me at the end of the week, but now, without standing on ceremony, I must warn you that a mass of guests (from Conservatory sphere) should be visiting me for the last days of Shrovetide, and that there will be nowhere to accommodate the famous philologist, and therefore I would prefer that he visit me on another occasion. Indeed, he will be fed up in this utterly alien environment. And so, if you have not already said anything to him, then please do not say anything. However, if for some reason it is convenient for Dima to come just now, at Shrovetide, then we will make room for him somehow, and I shall be glad to see him in any case. I kiss your hands.
