You ask whether I've received the missing proof sheets?[1] But how can I have received them, if you haven't sent them to me? It's a curious thing that these corrections are a perpetual muddle. But where, ultimately, did pages 20-35 disappeared to, and isn't it possible, if they have vanished, to run them off afresh and send them to me? So much time has been lost!!! And where could they be? I don't understand a thing. For God's sake, clear all this up, send me the missing pages and all the first proofs in general to me, here. I'm not going to Petersburg, because either the concert won't take place at all, or it will take place without me. I've already been furious for a whole week due to this business with the proofs, and therefore forgive for writing this note angrily and furiously. But, my God; this is enough to make one furious.

Yours P. Tchaikovsky
