25 июня 1891 г[ода] Вчера кончил черновые эскизы балета вполне. Я тебе говорил, что кончу их в 5 дней, а проработал 2 недели. Чувствую, что музыка этого балета будет куда хуже «Сп[ящей] кр[асавицы]». Но зато я приналягу теперь на «Иоланду». Дня два посвящу корректурам, а 28-го удеру от именин в Петербург. Дня три пробуду там и, вернувшись, примусь за «Иоланду». Сочиняя балет, я замечал в себе упадок вдохновения. Если то же будет с оперой, брошу писать. Радуюсь, что твоя работа идёт хорошо, но мало сочувствую салонной цели твоей новой пиэсы. Из Петербурга напишу тебе. Я как гимназист радуюсь этой поездке. Устал от балета очень, очень. Стар становлюсь. А впрочем, совершенно здоров. П. Ч.

25 June 1891 Yesterday I finished the rough sketches of the entire ballet . I said to you that I would finish it in 5 days, but I worked for 2 weeks. I feel that the music for this ballet will be inferior to "The Sleeping Beauty". On the other hand I'll now be tackling "Yolande". I'll dedicate two days to proofreading, and on the 28th I'll be escaping from my nameday to Petersburg. I'll be staying there for three days, then returning to take up "Yolande". While composing the ballet, I noticed my inspiration was tailing off. If the same thing happens with the opera, I'll give up writing. I'm glad that your work is going well, but I have little sympathy for the salon conception of your new play. I'll be writing to you from Petersburg. I'm as giddy as a schoolboy about this trip. I'm very, very weary from the ballet. I'm growing old. However, I'm completely well. P. T.
