22 April

In order to rest I'm going out of town for the rest of the day, and therefore I won't be with you again today. Tell Zhena, i.e. not your wife Anna Leontyevna, but rather your son Yevgeny [1], not to be angry that I haven't fulfilled my promise from Monday.

I'm sending a note on the next folded sheet, through which he (and all of you) might go to the theatre today and you will be issued tickets at the box office. Just set off a little earlier. I'll visit you on Thursday or Friday.

I hug you.

P. Tchaikovsky

Notes and References

  1. The Russian word for wife, "zhena" (жена) was the same as the name "Zhena" used within the family for Karl Albrecht's son, Yevgeny Maksimilian Karlovich Albecht (who was also Tchaikovsky's godson).
