Paris 15/3 June Dear Aleksandr Ivanovich!
I received your letter in London [1], amid such a frantic commotion that I could not respond immediately. And I can only write a few words to you now I find myself here, because I have a great deal of travelling and business matters. Actually both your letters [2] are such that they require full and heartfelt responses, which is just not possible in the present circumstances. Better to discuss this in person in Odessa, where I shall be in late autumn, and this time I want to see you more often. In the meantime I am writing these few words to say that I very, very much appreciate your situation, and I am touched by your sympathy for my music. I have come directly from Cambridge, where I experienced the very curious process of being awarded an honorary doctorate. I embrace you. P. Tchaikovsky |
