Clarens 23/11 окт[ября] 1877 Милая моя Саничка!
Мы устроились здесь с Толей очень дёшево и очень хорошо. Место чудесное; окна выходят прямо на озеро и погода стоит восхитительная. Если б на душе был покой, то как было бы хорошо в этой тишине. Но все соединилось, чтобы покоя на душе не было. Писем из России до сих пор не получаем; курс ужасный, и не предвидится конца его падению. Мы плотим вдвоём 13 франков в день: имеем превосходные две комнаты, отличный обед, безусловную тишину (потому что кроме нас живут только двое: какой-то русский с женой), вид удивительный, учтивую прислугу, внимательную хозяйку; словом, могло бы быть очень хорошо, если б...
