Многоуважаемый и добрейший
Владимир Васильевич! Я получил известия, вследствие коих мне необходимо выехать прямо в Москву. 15-го и 22-го там идут два новые мои большие сочинения (фортеп[инянный] концерт и сюита) и мне нужно успеть сделать спешную корректуру того и другого, присутствовать на всех репетициях и т. д. Я предполагал заехать в Петербург и побывать у Вас, чтобы поблагодарить за деньги, которые вчера получил. Теперь оказывается, что я должен миновать Петербург, в который попаду не ранее как после праздников. Итак, покамест приходится выразить Вам благодарность мою письменно. Если увидите М. А. Балакирева и Н. А. Корсаков, то потрудитесь передать им, что я сокрушаюсь, что обстоятельства заставляют меня отложить на целый месяц свидание с ними.
