English translation By Brett Langston |
Известие ложное. Рубинштейн здоров, кланяется, благодарит. Я сильно обижен. Всем пишешь, а мне нет. Прерываю навсегда дружеские отношения.
Чайковский |
News is false. Rubinstein is well, bows, thanks [1]. I am very offended. You wrote to everyone but me. I break off our friendship forever [2].

Notes and References
- ↑ Ivan Klimenko had telegrammed Tchaikovsky to enquire about Nikolay Rubinstein's health after he had read a newspaper report that he was gravely ill.
- ↑ As Klimenko recalled: "Pyotr Ilyich's humorous threat at the end of the above telegram was due to the fact that I only sent the telegram to him after I had already written to N. D. Kashkin and P. I. Jurgenson; I still wrote to him later" — quoted in П. И. Чайковский. Забытое и новое (1995), p. 82.
