В письме к Модесту, я объяснил причины, почему, по приезде сюда Анатолия, я решился ехать прямо в Каменку. Пусть он расскажет Вам эти причины. Тем не менее я ужасно терзаюсь и мучусь от мысли, что Вы и Модест будете сердиться на меня. Даю Вам слово, что осенью я побываю у Вас, но как следует: с работой, с тем чтобы спокойно пожить у Вас недели две. Умоляю Вас написать мне хоть два слова, из которых я мог бы усмотреть, что Вы меня простили. Главная причина то, что у Анатолия отпуск всего до 30 июля, что ему нужно отдохнуть и полечиться. Но и я, несмотря на все удовольствие быть у Вас, — был бы в беспокойном состоянии духа по причине того, что время идёт, а партитура моя, которую необходимо окончить осенью, лежит без движения.
