Модя! Отчего ты мне никогда не писал, что ты так рано будешь в Петербурге? В полной уверенности, что ты в Каменке, куда, согласно твоему желанию, я написал целый ворох писем, я вчера решился остановиться в гостинице, думая, что не найду ни тебя, ни Коли, ни Боба, а Miss Eastwood, Юрия, Митю, Кирьякова и tutti quanti. Снедаемый жаждой одиночества, я убоялся их. Сегодня был в Петергофе и узнал с изумлением, что ты здесь??!!! Странно! Я с Засядкой до слез спорил, что ты ни одного лишнего дня не подаришь Петербургу. Приехал я вчера в 8 часов вечера. Был в бане и ужинал у Палкина. Сегодня был у Исаакия (бездна благодати была), в Петергофе—и теперь здесь. Останавливался я в Grand Hôtel. См[отри] на обор[оте] Я не успел исполнить поручения Н[иколая] Д[митриевича]. Нужно узнать, здесь ли Шперк (Харламов мост, дом Фохтса), и написать да или нет в Ахен. Сделай это, голубчик.
