8 May My dear chap! You write to me that I have the whole opera!!![1] Not at all. I have only the 3rd act, which I received this morning and which I'm enclosing herewith. I'm terribly sorry that the 3rd act wasn't sent. Well, there's nothing to be done. Alyosha is going to the city now and, perhaps, he will bring back something. I still haven't all the 3rd proofs of the scenes. I'll be waiting for them. Then I must do the 3rd proofs of the 4th scene and third proofing of the 5th, 6th and 7th [2]. Won't you come over to me next Saturday? I should be very glad, and also if Kashkin, Ziloti and Karlusha came. If Simon [3] wanted to visit he could come as well. P. Tchaikovsky |
