Kamenka 4th May Natochka! Do not worry about the cuff-link. I made a blunder; it turns out that the cuff-link was in my suitcase, and I'd already given it to Abrumka to be fixed. How frightened we were by a fire at the inn today! Fortunately, everything ended safely, but in the first moments it was most terrifying, since the fire broke out in a strong wind. Today in general was a day of excitement and anxiety: Verusha lost her wedding ring, and was very upset by this, while Modest had an abscess cut out. Both of these incidents are at an end: the ring was found, and the operation accomplished. Poor Modestero' screamed like a calf. Nata, for God's sake don't be angry that I still haven't been to see Sofya Osipovna. By God, I don't know how or why, but I just can't find the time to visit anyone at all here. I haven't even been up to the big house yet. All of you must come here soon. We are living wonderfully here: calmly, peacefully, cheerfully. Only the drought is most distressing. I kiss Mamusya with the utmost tenderness, and give a thousand tender greetings to everyone else (Bobik more than the rest). I hug you, the plumpest of all seasoned old maids! Yours, P. Tchaikovsky Tall Talya is in charge here. It's out of your hands! |
