German music publisher.

Schäffer was the assistant of Tchaikovsky's main German publisher Daniel Rahter and he corresponded with the composer in the spring of 1889 regarding the proofs of the Piano Concerto No. 1 and the String Quartet No. 1 (though the latter was not subsequently published by Rahter). After Rahter's death in 1891 Schäffer continued to work for the firm, which was now headed by the former's eldest son, Johann Christian Daniel Rather (1873–1925).
