Rome 21/9 December Dear friend!
Today I'm only able to report to you that I've arrived in Rome and found the Hôtel de Russie very uncomfortable and expensive, so Modest and I decided to move to new accommodation, where I'm settling down for 2 or 3 months. My address will be as follows: Hôtel Costanzi, Via S[an] Niccolo di Tolentino. The weather is astonishingly better than in France, where latterly I endured all manner of misfortunes. The cold, being stranded due to snowdrifts, the hunger, inconvenience and such a serious delay that I had to spend the night in Turin. Once I'm settled I'll write more fully. I embrace you. Yours, P. Tchaikovsky |
