Most kind and dear Sofya Ivanovna!

Pyotr Ivanovich writes that you should like to have my portrait, and I am hastening to fulfil what for me is such a flattering desire, but out of the six boudoir portraits I received, I have not a single one remaining, and for the time being I can only present you with a cabinet portrait. Eventually, in Moscow, I shall undoubtedly give you a boudoir (such a strange name!). Forgive me, golubushka, for only half fulfilling your wish. I'm also sending a card to Borya. My Petersburg pictures turned out excellently — but I have none of them just at the moment.

I kiss your hand; hug Borya, and send a thousand greetings to Sasha Jurgenson. I kiss Grisha.

Yours, P. Tchaikovsky
