Having thought everything over, I've decided that in view of the need to work hard to finish "''[[Vakula]]''" on time, I won't go to [[Moscow]] myself now, and so won't invite you. And whatever happens I'll come to ''[[Guitry]]'s'' benefit. Reserve a place for me. | |||
I'm so glad to have come home!!! I'll probably go to [[Moscow]] on Holy Saturday, and return here on the 2nd day of the holiday; on the morning of 30th March I'll be in [[Petersburg]] without fail. Besides ''[[Guitry]]'', I also need to see ''[[Polonsky]]'' in order to discuss the changes I made to the libretto. Since by then the music for "[[Vakula]]" shall already be finished, there's nothing to stop me from spending a few days with you. But all the same, please, don't tell any strangers about my arrival. They're just going to the post office, there's no time to write. Sorry for writing so little. | |||

15 марта Модичка!
Сообразив все, я решил, что ввиду необходимости крепко работать, дабы, кончить «Вакулу» вовремя, я сам теперь в Москву не поеду и тебя не зову. А приеду я во что бы то ни стало к бенефису Гитри. Озаботься о месте для меня. Как я рад, что приехал домой!!! Вероятно, я поеду в страстную субботу в Москву, а на 2 день праздника вернусь сюда; 30-го же марта утром буду непременно в Питере. Кроме Гитри, мне ещё необходимо повидаться с Полонским, дабы переговорить об изменениях, сделанных мной в либретто. Так как к тому времени музыка «Вакулы» уже будет вся кончена, то можно будет беспрепятственно провести у тебя несколько дней. Но всё-таки, пожалуйста, никому из чужих не говори о моем приезде. Сейчас идут на почту, писать некогда. Прости, что мало пишу. Обнимаю! Твой П. Чайковский |
