19 February Most respected Ivan Petrovich!
I'm sending you "The Angel Cried Out". I ask nothing for it; there's not much good in it, but I'm unable to write anything good just now. I arrived today. I'll visit you one day soon. Sincerely devoted, P. Tchaikovsky |
Notes and References
- ↑ The autograph manuscript of the chorus The Angel Cried Out is dated 18 February [O.S.], and was written to fulfil a promise Tchaikovsky had made to the Russian Choral Society the previous autumn. The society gave the first performance of the work at one of their concerts in Moscow on 8/20 March 1887, conducted by Fyodor Ivanov.
