Mon bien cher ami!

Je ne réponds vo[us] par une grande lettre car dans quelques jours nous vous verrais!

Je t'embrasse!

My dear good friend!

I won't reply to you with a long letter because we'll be seeing each other in a few days!

I embrace you!

P. Tchaikovsky

Notes and References

  1. The identity of the addressee is not mentioned in the letter, but the accompanying envelope (postmarked with the same date, and written in Russian) is addressed to the actor Lucien Guitry, who at that time was working at the Mikhaylovsky Theatre in Saint Petersburg.
  2. We are most grateful to the staff of Manchester Archive Service for their assistance in making this previously unknown letter available to us.
