For God's sake forgive me! I completely forgot yesterday that I had a longstanding business appointment this morning, which it turns out is impossible to postpone. I am terribly annoyed and ashamed before you, all the more so because it's necessary for me to leave today, and I won't have the opportunity to become acquainted with "The Sea" until the autumn [1].

I embrace you with all my heart.

Sincerely devoted,

P. Tchaikovsky

Notes and References

  1. The first performance of Glazunov's symphonic fantasia The Sea, Op. 28, took place at the sixth Russian Musical Society concert in Moscow on 18 February/2 March 1890.
