Вы слишком преувеличиваете мои заслуги перед Вами. Опера Ваша попала бы на сцену и без той совершенно естественной поддержки, которую я по мере сил и возможности Вам оказал. Распинаться за Вас мне не приходилось, — ибо театральное начальство и без моего содействия было преисполнено по отношению к Вам наилучших чувств и намерений. Радуюсь Вашей радости, но надеюсь, что в чаду одержанной победы Вы всё-таки сумели критически отнестись к своему творению и почерпнуть полезный урок из осуществления мечты Вашей. Если да, то исполнение Вашего «''Пира''» не только принесёт Вам большое удовольствие, но и огромную пользу.

I'm sending you Madame [[Nadezhda Rimskaya-Korsakova|Korsakova]]'s letter <ref name="note1"/> for safe-keeping.
You are over-exaggerating my services to you <ref name="note1"/>. Your opera <ref name="note2"/> made it onto the stage regardless of my advocacy, which it was quite natural that I rendered to you so far as possible. I did not need to grovel on your behalf, because the theatre authorities, without any assistance from me, were filled with respect for you, and had the best feelings and intentions. I rejoice in your happiness, but I hope that amid the glow of victory you are still able to look critically at your creation, and draw some lessons from the realization of your dreams. If so, then the performance of your "''Feast''" will not only bring you more pleasure, but also great benefits.


I'm sending my portrait herewith <ref name="note3"/>. Please give my respects to your mother, and to all your lot.
