20 Novembre [18]91 Cher
J'en conclus que la 5-me représentation n'a pas fait полного сбора. Merci, merci, encore! P. Tschaïkovsky |
20 November 1891 Dear Bogomir Bogomirovich!
I have not followed your advice [1], since as a rule I do not interfere with the Directorate's administrative details. And then it is certainly in my interest that you wish me to follow due process. Yet so far as my own interests are concerned — I am remaining silent. But I am most thankful to you for the good and friendly intentions which guided you in this matter. I have concluded that the 5th performance did not pass muster [2]. Ah well, too bad! But there is nothing to be done. If the opera is destined to disappear from the repertoire, one can reduce the prices, or devise all manner of solutions — but to no avail. The patient will die. Thank you, thank you again! P. Tchaikovsky |
