Russian writer and dramatist (b. 26 April/8 May 1824 near Kostromsk; d. 16/29 November 1914), born Nikolay Aleksandrovich Chayev (Николай Александрович Чаев).
Tchaikovsky's Settings of Works by Chayev
In 1885 Chayev, then the repertoire manager of the Moscow theatres, supplied the words for Vakula's Song (Act III, No. 17) in Tchaikovsky's opera Cherevichki (a reworking of Vakula the Smith).
