American poet and critic (b. 2 July 1825 in Hingham, Massachusetts; d. 12 May 1903 in New York).

Tchaikovsky's Settings of Works by Stoddard

Stoddard's 1857 poem Roses and Thorns, in a Russian translation by Aleksey Pleshcheyev (1825–1893), was set by Tchaikovsky as Legend (Легенда), No. 5 of the Sixteen Songs for Children, Op. 54 (1883).
