Russian writer, journalist and translator (b. 26 June/8 July 1821 in Saint Petersburg; d. 6/18 February 1896 in Saint Petersburg), born Vladimir Rafailovich Zotov (Владимир Рафаилович Зотов).
Tchaikovsky's Settings of Works by Zotov
The libretto to Tchaikovsky's opera Iolanta was devised by the composer's brother Modest (1850–1916), after Zotov's translation of the Danish drama Kong Renés Datter (1845) by Henrik Hertz (1798–1870). Modest mistakenly attributed the translation to Konstantin Zvantsev (1823-1890) [1].
