German pianist, composer and music teacher (b. 8 October 1862 [N.S.] in Hamburg; d. 27 April 1942 in Vienna), born Emil Georg Conrad von Sauer.
A student of Nikolay Rubinstein in Moscow (1879–81) and Franz Liszt in Weimar (1884–85), Sauer made his international concert debut in 1882. From 1901 to 1907 he was director of piano master-classes at the Vienna Conservatory, returning to the post in 1915.
On 8/20 February 1889, Sauer performed Tchaikovsky's Piano Concerto No. 1 in Dresden under the composer's direction.
