Moscow 28 January 1886 Forgive me, Modichka, for not writing in ages. I've already been in Moscow for several days, and therefore I can't write properly. Tomorrow I'm going to Maydanovo, but not for long, I seems, because decorum requires me to attend Rubinstein's concerts more diligently, and it seems that next Tuesday I'll have to be back here again. There's nothing in particular to report about myself or my stay in Moscow. I was at the Musical Society on Saturday and heard Arensky's suite, a very talented thing. Yesterday I dined with Anton Rubinstein at the Huberts. Today I'll be listening to him. "Manfred" is to be given on 11th March, the day of Nikolay Grigoryevich's death. You should definitely come. Anyway, I hope to see you before then for Shrovetide at Maidanovo. You know, after reading the review of "Sapho", I almost decided to dash off to Petersburg for a day, namely Sunday. Alas! It's impossible, as I still have no money. Kisses and hugs. P. Tchaikovsky Could this really be the start of a relatively calm period for you? |
