Golbuchik Anatosha! It's awfully difficult to find a few free moments here to write — the commotion here is the same as in Moscow, and to top it all, I've been unwell the whole time, such that one day I even stayed at home in desperation. However, the ill health was unimportant in itself, i.e. a very runny nose and cough. I'm leaving tomorrow. Wherever possible I tried to avoid meetings, but all the same I still had to make numerous visits. I went everywhere that I needed to be, and my conscience is completely clear. Modya intends going abroad for a while after me; he's planning to leave on the tenth of January, and perhaps earlier. Generally speaking, Modya is completely healthy, but he's endured so many strong shocks that the point is he needs to go away. I've spent an awful lot of money here, such that I've had to sell some gold. As for the theatres, I went to the French one once, and to the Italian Opera once. Golubchik, write to me in Paris, at the following address: Paris, 14, Rue Richepance, Hôtel Richepance. I give a heart kiss to you and dear Parasha.

Yours
