You know, Tolya, you and Panya surprise me. Couldn't at least have a line from you? After all, I wrote to you with my address.

After my previous letter (from Berlin, I think), I was in Geneva where they had arranged a festival of my works. The orchestra there turned out to be very poor, and it was very difficult for me to make them play passably. But it was an enormous success. Then I went to Hamburg. Lord, how tired I am of these constant, endless journeys. Everything in Hamburg was also wholly propitious, and the new symphony was a great success. This is all lovely, and everything gladdens and keeps me occupied at any given moment, but as soon as there's no rehearsal or concert, I fall into a state of incredible melancholy, homesickness and boredom. I'm particularly tormented by the thought that time is being wasted, and time is something I find more and more precious. Now I have only one concert left in London, from which I would certainly have withdrawn were it not for Sapelnikov, who in that event would lose the opportunity to play in London. Yesterday I started to experience genuine despair at the thought that another month of torment and tedium lay ahead!

I'm flying to you from London. But before then, is there anything I need to know about you? What if Panya decides to spend the summer in Moscow? What if you also take leave? Then why should I waste the time (two weeks of travelling)? For God's sake, at least respond by telegram.

Kisses, hugs!

Yours, P. Tchaikovsky
